The Young Leaders Academy is an English Christian academy that incorporates immersion Spanish instruction into the daily curriculum. Students use a rigorous American curriculum, all taught in English and in Spanish. The low student to teacher ratio (8:1), allows staff to use the teaching methods and techniques that best suit each individual student.
Immersion Spanish, piano and art are all included in the curriculum. Children are also exposed to the French, Italian, German, Chinese and Japanese languages and cultures. As a result, our students develop an innate appreciation for diversity in people and thought.
Immersion means:
Understanding a young child’s natural ability to learn language – through regular conversation (talk about getting dressed and eating meals), subject matter learning (math, social studies and science), and language arts (literature and writing).
Encouraging that ability from the first moment of school when teachers greet new students in the chosen language. Teachers speak only the chosen language, and children quickly learn and love that this is how we communicate.
Skilled native-speaking teachers who bring education, experience, and a love of teaching children. Students develop the accent and understanding of rapid native speech that is so critical for meaningful communication.
Focus on developing fluency in speaking, reading, writing and understanding, so our students can actively participate in their target language and culture.
A strong English program in grades 1 through 5, designed specifically for our immersion students. Literacy in English and Spanish reinforce one another, resulting in advanced capability in both languages.
YLBA provides a true immersion experience, enabling our students to become truly bilingual, confident world citizens
The Spanish program culminates with a fifth grade trip to a sister school in a Spanish speaking country. There, the children see that their Spanish language and cultural skills can truly open doors for them across the world.
